Dark Stars -

By: Menna Gamal

English Version

In terms of physics and astronomy, a dark star is a star that has a gravitational pull, strong enough to trap light under Newtonian gravity. It is also an object composed of dark energy that outwardly resembles a black hole. However, we are not here to talk about astronomical phenomena. We are here to talk about human phenomena that we meet every day and everywhere. The owners of developmental disorders and mental illnesses.

We can all be “sad” at times in our lives. We sometimes even make jokes about people being crazy or nuts, even though we know that we shouldn’t. We have all had some exposure to mental illness, but do we really understand it or know what it is? A mental illness can be defined as a health condition that changes a person’s thinking, feelings, or behavior (or all three) and that causes the person distress and difficulty in functioning. It can be severe in some cases and mild in others. There are many different mental illnesses, including depression, schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Each illness alters a person’s thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors in distinct ways.

Not all brain diseases are categorized as mental illnesses. Disorders such as

  1. Epilepsy: which is a common condition that affects the brain and causes frequent bursts of electrical activity in the brain that temporarily affect how it works.
  2. Parkinson’s disease: which is a brain disorder that leads to shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination.
  3. Multiple sclerosis: which can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.

These are also brain disorders yet they are considered neurological diseases rather than mental illnesses. Interestingly, the lines between mental illnesses and these other brain or neurological disorders are blurring somewhat. Mental illness is associated with changes in the brain’s structure, chemistry, and function and does indeed have a biological basis.

Differences between

Developmental Disorders and Mental Illnesses

A well-known example of developmental disorders is autism. Mental illnesses include mood disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders, and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. Many people lump these different types of conditions together since both developmental disorders and mental illnesses affect thought processes and behavior.

A key difference is that developmental disorders and mental illnesses have different ways of thought processes and behavior. In the case of pervasive developmental disorders, individuals with the disorder do not have the cognitive ability to have or understand certain thoughts. A developmental disorder may be an obstacle to learning. In contrast, a mental illness does not directly impact cognitive abilities, but instead changes an individual’s perceptions and thought processes.

Developmental disorders are diagnosed when a patient is younger than 18 years of age. Mental illnesses can affect people of any age. these disorders differ in duration. Developmental disorders are lifelong disabilities. Mental illnesses may not be lifelong. Some are chronic while others are temporary or recur in episodes, but are not omnipresent.

Famous people with different diseases

CHARLES DICKENS // DEPRESSION

One of the greatest authors in the English language suffered from clinical depression (The more-severe form of depression, also known as major depression.)

By his early 30s, Dickens was the most famous author in the world. He was wealthy and seemed to have it all. But after an unbelievably difficult childhood, his depression worsened with age, And his previously prolific output virtually ceased.

ISSAC NEWTON // BIPOLAR, AUTISM, SCHIZOPHRENIA

One of the greatest scientists of all time is also the hardest genius to diagnose. Newton suffered from huge ups and downs in his moods, indicating bipolar disorder, combined with psychotic tendencies. His inability to connect with people could place him on the autism spectrum. He also had a tendency to write letters filled with mad delusions, which some medical historians feel strongly indicates schizophrenia. Whether he suffered from one or a combination of these serious illnesses, they did not stop him from inventing calculus, explaining gravity, and building telescopes, among his other great scientific achievements.

Michael Phelps/ADHD

ADHD made schoolwork difficult for Phelps when he was little. He liked to move, acted up in class, and had a hard time getting his work finished. Phelps was diagnosed with ADHD at age 9.

“I saw kids who, we were all in the same class, and the teachers treated them differently than they would treat me,” Phelps told People magazine: “I had a teacher tell me that I would never amount to anything and I would never be successful.” Phelps was the most decorated Olympian of all time. He’s won 28 Olympic medals, 23 of which are gold.

ALBERT EINSTEIN/ dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyslexia

As a mathematical genius. He didn’t learn to talk until he was three and it is suggested by some that he struggled with dyscalculia (a learning disability in math), dysgraphia (trouble with writing), dyslexia (a common learning difficulty that mainly causes problems with reading, writing and spelling, and word finding). He won the Nobel Prize for his quantum theory and is most renowned for his theory of relativity. As a humanitarian, he also worked toward justice and peace.

Agatha Christie / learning disability

Agatha Christie, the prolific and popular author, had a learning disability. In spite of excellent reading and problem solving skills, she had difficulty with spelling, arithmetic, the mechanical aspects of writing, and foreign language learning. This disability obviously did not prevent her from becoming one of the most popular writers in the English language.

Billie Eilish /Tourette’s Syndrome

Billie Eilish lives every day with Tourette’s Syndrome. Tourette’s is a rare nervous system disorder that presents with repetitive and uncontrolled movements (licking blinking or shoulder shrugging) or sounds, called “tics” The disorder starts in childhood; Billie has stated that she’s had it her “whole life.”

Justin Timberlake /ADD,OCD                  null

The multifaceted singer and actor, revealed that he has both OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) and ADD (Attention deficit).“I have OCD mixed with ADD,” he says. “You try living with that [combination].”the multiple Grammy and Emmy award winner has clearly found a way to manage his symptoms and live a fulfilling, highly successful life.

Scientists estimate that one of every four people is affected by mental illness either directly or indirectly. Mental illness is not uncommon among children and adolescents, approximately 12 million children under the age of 18 have mental disorders.

At this time, scientists do not have a complete understanding of what causes mental illnesses.

Scientists understand that mental illnesses are associated with changes in neurochemicals or from problems with the communication between neurons in the brain. Genes also play a role in determining whether someone develops a mental illness. The illnesses that are most likely to have a genetic component include autism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and ADHD.

At this time, most mental illnesses cannot be cured, but they can usually be treated effectively to minimize

To begin treatment, an individual needs to see a qualified mental health professional.

There are two types of treatment: drug therapy, which results in side effects, or psychotherapy, which takes longer to reach results.

Two-thirds of people suffering from mental illness do not go to treatment because of stigma or the high cost of treatment.
